Volta Space Technologies Selected to Study Lunar Power Architecture
Montréal, Canada - June 9, 2026
Volta Space Technologies Inc. is proud to announce it has been awarded a $569.000 CAD contract by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) under the Lunar Surface Exploration Initiative (LSEI) Architecture Studies to lead a comprehensive study of a future lunar power infrastructure.
“We are truly honoured to have been selected by the Canadian Space Agency to lead this study, with an exceptional team.” - Justin Zipkin, CEO and co-founder of Volta. “We have invested significantly to be at the forefront of the lunar energy market and are excited to continue studying and sharing our insights to help inform Canada’s next flagship capability within lunar exploration.”
Power is not a subsystem. It is the precondition for everything else on the lunar surface — rovers, habitats, science, and ultimately human life. LSEI aims to assess Canada's potential future contribution to sustained human and robotic presence on the lunar surface.
"This CSA-funded study gives us the mandate to help define that architecture in a way that is maximally interoperable across the international lunar exploration architectures." said Paolo Pino, CTO and co-founder.
Volta will lead the study in partnership with a multidisciplinary team spanning Canadian industry, academia, and international collaborators.
